The highly anticipated Marvel Blu-Ray 10-disk box set, which would have contained the upcoming Avengers release as well as each of the tie-in movies (Iron Man and Iron Man II, Thor, Captain America & The Incredible Hulk) has been shelved for the foreseeable future.
The culprit? A luggage company out of Germany.
To catch everyone up, Disney planned to release the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled, a set containing all of the listed movies above as well as four bonus disks, all contained in a briefcase carrying a replica Tesseract that glows. The case itself is a representation of the case used by Sammy L. in The Avengers.
There in lies the problem. Disney never obtained permission from Rimowa BhmbH, the company that made the case in the movie, to copy the design for the set. And not knowing whether they would secure the proper licenses before the scheduled release date, Disney pushed back release of the set for 6 months.
What's the positive, you ask?
Disney said they would improve upon the original set with a new case design and additional content inside. No real details are available yet but keep an eye out on IGN or here to see things as they develop.
