Star Wars Rebels in, Star Trek Into Darkness also in but not as in as people were hoping.

Top news of this particular moment: Disney/Lucasfilm announced the beginning of production on a new animated Star Wars series titled, "Star Wars Rebels".  Set to premiere in Fall of 2014, it will cover the time period between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" and follow the rise of the Empire and their mission to hunt down and destroy the remaining Jedi. It will premiere on the Disney Channel with an extra-long first episode and then move over to it's regular time slot on Disney XD.  No information has been made available concerning the cast and crew of the new series.

This is good news coming out of Disney/Lucasfilm after a series of shake-ups within the monster company over the last five months, including the shutdown of LucasArts and the cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

On the flip side of that, the eagerly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness roared into theaters over the weekend, cleaning up and taking top seat at the box office.  Surprisingly, however, it failed to out-perform it's predecessor Star Trek taking in $5 million less domestically and $2 million less worldwide in the same period as the first one.  Being that STID is the newest film in one of the most successful sci-fi franchises of all times and it is applauded by audience and critics alike, I have a feeling it will be ok.
