This argument goes back to a time before the dawn of things like Facebook...Twitter.....air.... The fundamentalists would scream, "There are only three movies!" while the hippy faction will say, "Love all Lucas' children." Me, myself, I'm middle of the road. It's like the saying goes, "God is infallible....even when he's not." It's his work, he did what he wanted with it, let's leave it like that.
ANYWAY, Star Wars Day falls on a Sunday this year which gives many of you the opportunity to revisit the galaxy far away. There are six films you can work with; how do you plan on viewing them?
TRADITIONALIST
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Return of the Jedi,
4) Phantom Menace, 5) Attack of the Clones, 6) Revenge of the Sith
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is how George made them. This is how I'll watch them
CHRONOLOGIST
1) Phantom Menace, 2) Attack of the Clones, 3) Revenge of the Sith,
4) A New Hope, 5) Empire Strikes Back, 6) Return of the Jedi
*THOUGHT PROCESS: Stories have a beginning and an ending...and I don't like flashbacks.
PURIST
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Return of the Jedi - All of them are original release; no Special Edition
*THOUGH PROCESS: This is the story of Luke Skywalker. And how Han shot first.
PURIST EXTREMIST
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Return of the Jedi (but fast forward through all the stuff involving Ewoks) - All of them are original release; no Special Edition
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is the story of Luke Skywalker....and it doesn't involve teddy bears.
SAGA
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Phantom Menace,
4) Attack of the Clones, 5) Revenge of the Sith, 6) Return of the Jedi
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is the story of Luke Skywalker....and it doesn't involve teddy bears.
SAGA
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Phantom Menace,
4) Attack of the Clones, 5) Revenge of the Sith, 6) Return of the Jedi
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is the story of Anakin Skywalker and all the sh*t he went through in his life...while maintaining the surprise of Luke's parentage.
MACHETE (The best way to view the series, IMO)
1) A New Hope, 2) Empire Strikes Back, 3) Attack of the Clones,
4) Revenge of the Sith, 5) Return of the Jedi
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is the story of Anakin Skywalker and the sh*t he went through in his life....after he became a Jedi. And we still maintain the surprise of Luke's parentage.
4) Revenge of the Sith, 5) Return of the Jedi
*THOUGHT PROCESS: This is the story of Anakin Skywalker and the sh*t he went through in his life....after he became a Jedi. And we still maintain the surprise of Luke's parentage.
I cannot take the credit for the Machete order. It was told to me by a friend and through research, I found the guy that DID come up with it. Thank you, Rod Hilton.
As you can see, you have options. From here, it's up to you how you want to handle them. Again, just a gentle reminder, Star Wars Day is on Sunday, May 4th. It is a day for celebration of all things Star Wars. Gather your loved ones around you, pop open a bottle of blue milk and embrace the love of one of the core pillars of our way of life, Star Wars.
For a listing of "official" events in celebration of the day, visit starwars.com or click here. For local events, check out your neighborhood comic and gaming stores, or possibly (but I doubt it) movie theaters.
Cheers. And May The 4th be with you....always. ;-)
